Gordon V. Windle

Auburn- Gordon V. Windle age 95 of Caron Lane formerly of 221 Gamage Avenue, died Saturday morning after a period of failing health at the Odd Fellows Home. Born in Lewiston on August 25, 1915 the son of Harold G. and Pearl (Merrow) Windle. He was a graduate of Edward Little High Scholl Class of 1933, he received five varsity letters, he was also an avid speedskater in high school. A former member of the Lewiston Maple Leafs Hockey Team, an amateur boxer, he loved speed and racing. His nickname was "Spook" in his younger years. Prior to his retirement, he worked fro over thirty years at JJ Nissan Bakery Company as a salesman. He was a member of the Ancient Brothers Lodge for over fifty years, 3rd degree Mason, he was also a member and former President of The Androscoggin Historical Society. He was Past President of the Lewiston-Auburn Stamp and Coin Club. He was former Director of The Auburn Public Library, and former Director of the Edward Little Alumni Association. He was the husband of the former Margaret Cronk who died on March 28, 1994.He is survived by two daughters; Marlene Parent of Auburn and Carol Ellis and her husband Ted of Scarborough, a son Mark Windle and his wife Nancy of Auburn, five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, a brother in law Harold Estes of Hawaii.He was predeceased by a sister Doris Estes and by one brother Donald Windle.The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Odd Fellows Home for their special care.Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at www.lynchbrothers.com Windle-Died in Auburn Feb. 5, 2011.
