

LEWISTON - Helen L. Hammond, 92, a resident of the Hatch Rd., Auburn died unexpectedly early Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Lewiston October 29, 1921 the daughter of Jacob and Helene (Bauer) Simion. Helen attended Hersey Hill School in Minot and was a 1938 graduate of Edward Little High School then continued her education at the Auburn, Maine School of Commerce. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at the First Auburn Trust Company where she met her future husband, Russell at the teller window of the bank and they were married October 18, 1942. Together they worked on the family farm and for Hammond Equipment Company for over 70 years while successfully raising three children making sure they all got to their extra curricular activities. She was a member of Minot Corner Methodist Church, Stevens Mills Grange and Past Master for six years and Chaplain 15 years, Danville Grange and Chaplain 15 years, and Pamona State and National Grange. Helen also had a great love of cats, birds, and flowers. Survivors include her husband, Russell Hammond of Auburn, two sons, Frederick R. Hammond and wife Donna of Auburn, Clifton F. Hammond of Poland; one daughter, Bethany E. Hunt and husband, Jerry of North Windham who she refered to as her favorite son in law who was always ready to help. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Timothy, Russell, Douglas, Matthew, and Maria; two great granddaughters, Lily and Safiya. Funeral services honoring Helen’s life will be held SUNDAY 4:00PM at the funeral home with Reverend Marian Marks officiating. Burial will be private at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
