Jill Diane Hunt, 79, passed away on April 9, 2026, at the Marshwood Center in Lewiston, Maine, in the company of her eldest daughter. Jill was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, humor, and creativity touched every life she encountered.
Born to Fred Hilton Soule and Marjorie Joanne Quinn of Woolwich, Maine, Jill grew up with a deep appreciation for nature, art, and the simple joys of life—interests that would remain central to her throughout her years. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters, Ruth Hale and Jeanne Hamlin. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Hunt; her daughters, Heidi Hunt and her husband, Daniel Kemish, and Casey Chamberlain and her husband, Brian Chamberlain; her beloved grandchildren, Connor, Madison, and Spencer Chamberlain; and her sister, Carol Oulton.
Jill earned her bachelor’s degree in 1969 from Gorham State Teachers College, now the University of Southern Maine at Gorham. She began her career as a teacher, but after a brief period in the classroom, she chose to devote herself full time to raising her daughters and managing the household. She embraced this role with dedication, patience, and a deep sense of purpose. Though she stepped away from full time teaching, she continued to share her love of learning by assisting with art classes at her daughters’ school and encouraging creativity at home.
Art, nature, and animals were lifelong passions for Jill. She found peace and joy at the seaside, where she felt most at home, reading a magazine with her feet in the sand. She and Joe spent countless hours together treasure hunting in antique shops across Maine, always drawn to objects with history and character, and she had a special appreciation for gardens and the beauty they brought into the world. These passions were not just hobbies—they were gifts she passed on to her daughters, shaping their lives in lasting ways.
Jill was known for her kindness, her sharp wit, and her unfiltered conversations about anything and everything. She held strong opinions, expressed with humor and honesty, but her love for her family and friends was even stronger. Despite facing health challenges for much of her life, she remained a source of laughter and light. She enjoyed meeting up with friends and family, bringing her wry humor and lively spirit to every gathering.
Jill will be remembered for her steady presence, her creativity, her humor, and the beauty she found—and created—in everyday life. Her family and friends will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude.
