Joan was born on September 22, 1928, in Beacon, New York, to George Palmer Sadler and Mercedes Gillen Sadler. She grew up as the only daughter, among three brothers, George “Junie”, Robert “Bobby”, and John “Jackie”. Her family made the move from New York to Maine, where she eventually graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn. She married her husband, the late Henry (“Tibby”) Thibodeau, on July 19th, 1948. They were married for 66 years before his passing in March 2015. They raised two children together, Paul and Patrice, who filled their lives with love and laughter, and grew to be two of their very best friends.
They shared most of their life together in the Lewiston-Auburn area, where they built a beautiful life surrounded by friends and family they enjoyed so much. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness, her unforgettable sense of humor, and the unconditional love she gave to everyone around her.
Joan is survived by her son, Paul Michael Thibodeau of Westbrook; her grandchildren Timothy Haggerty of Concord, NH, Daniel Haggerty and his wife Kristen of Pembroke, NH, Kathleen Thibodeau and her husband Benjamin Lindsay of Gorham, ME; her great-grandchildren Emma and Bennett Haggerty of Pembroke, NH; and a wealth of extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by us all.
We would like to thank all the staff at Sedgewood Commons for the kindness, care, and laughs they shared with her throughout her time there.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life honoring Joan on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 12:00 pm at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Burial will be private at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
