

PORTLAND - Lawrence M. Quealy a resident of 14 Colonial Way, Auburn formerly of Boston, Ma., died Tuesday at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side following a brief illness. He was born in Dracut, Massachusetts to the parents of John and Bridget (Meade) Quealy who immigrated here to the United States from County Clare Ireland. He was raised in Brookline, Massachusetts and had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Quealy then went on to become executive assistant for 35 years to three City of Boston mayors during which time, Mr. Quealy was instrumental in planning, Pope John Paul II’s Papal visit to Boston in 1978, and also for Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to the City of Boston to commemorate our country’s Bicentennial in 1976. He was a lover of the City of Boston’s culture, its people, and was a genuine fan of all Boston sports teams. After 35 years of service to the City he then shared that same love of Boston and brought it to Maine on Lake Thompson in Oxford upon his retirement. It was there he spent special times with family and friends. Survivors include his wife the former Mary Lou Hogan of Auburn whom he married in 1964; one son, James L. Quealy of Dedham, MA; two daughters, Beth Hagerty and husband, Dr. Jay Hagerty of Bangor; Allison Quealy of Minot; a brother, Brendan Quealy and wife Priscilla of Danvers, MA; two sisters, Sister Ernestine Quealy. CSJ of Brighton, MA; Theresa Lombardozzi of New Haven, CT; 4 grandchildren, Cavan, Devin, Molly, and Seamus; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.besides his parents,he was predeceased by three brothers, John, Thomas, and Vincent Quealy. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Lawrence’s life will be celebrated SATURDAY 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Auburn.
