

LEWISTON- Mary L. Cummings, 90, of Lewiston died Monday September 9, 2013 at the Marshwood Health Care Center following a long illness. She was born in Drew Plantation, Maine on April 20, 1923 the daughter of Ernest and Cora (Butters) Leavitt. She had two sisters and one brother. The family moved to Lewiston where she attended Jordan Grammar School and then Lewiston High School. After high school she went to work at Marois Restaurant and during World War II, she worked at the Shipyard. Prior to being married, Mary played guitar and sang on the “Al Ricker Radio Show” out of Lewiston. After the war, Marry married Clarence “Stanley” Cummings and they moved to Connecticut. While in Connecticut, Mary was employed by Casco Products and later at Norden’s making sonar equipment for submarines and NASA. After she and her husband retired, they moved back to Maine. Mary loved music and enjoyed going to Bluegrass Festivals. Mary has never had any children, but has many nieces and nephews and has always been kind, loving and supportive to all of them. She was predeceased by two sisters Ida Grant and Eva Libby; and by one brother Ernest Leavitt. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at www.lynchbrothers.com . Funeral services honoring Mary’s life will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home with Reverend Albert Jackson officiating. Committal services will then follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Lewiston. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM till the time of the service at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston 784-4023.
