

Norma Lou (Brown) Shearer, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18th, at Clover Manor in Auburn, Maine. She was born March 10, 1928 in St. Helens, Oregon, the oldest of six children born to Nathaniel and Wandah Brown. She graduated from Scappoose (OR) High School and attended Northwestern School of Commerce in Portland, Oregon. She married James Shearer on September 10, 1947. James and Norma lived in Portland OR, St. Helens OR, MountlakeTerrace WA, Edmonds WA, Imperial Beach CA, El Paso TX, Berwick ME, and Auburn ME. Besides raising her family, Norma was active in churches wherever she lived, and enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving in many volunteer capacities. Norma enjoyed gardening, reading, and fiber arts. She and her family operated Foxy Family Crafts in Berwick, Maine. She particularly enjoyed teaching others how to weave, spin yarn, and use natural dyes. She would attend Maine agricultural fairs and demonstrate techniques. She belonged to the Southern Maine Guild of Spinners and Weavers, and the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. She is survived by her husband of 66 years; a daughter Wandah Clark and her husband David Clark of Auburn; a son James E. Shearer II and his wife Lynn Shearer of Berwick; four grandchildren: Heather Rauscher, Leah Rauscher, Wendy Johnson, and Danielle Hussey; four great-grandchildren; and one sister Donna Parrish. She is predeceased by one daughter, Merrie Bertha Shearer. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Clover Manor and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for their loving care. A Memorial Service honoring Norma’s life will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Court Street Baptist Church. Committal services will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court Street, Auburn, Maine 04210, for use in their Sunday School program. There will not be any visitation.
