

LEWISTON - Normand A. Chabot, 78, a lifelong resident of 96 Acadia Avenue in Lewiston died unexpectedly Monday morning at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in the same house in which he presently resided in Lewiston on December 23, 1931 the son of Laurent and Emma (Goulet) Chabot. Norm attended local schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. He then joined the United States Army National Guard 133rd Engineering Battalion where he served for 33 years retiring as a Colonel. Norm was also the owner operator of the former Chabot’s Garage on Canal St., in Lewiston. His hobbies included hunting and fishing with his Army buddies and was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved hunting and fishing trips to the Allagash in Northern Maine. His strong passion was not only the military, but his religion and his church. Norm was a lifelong and a faithful benefactor to Holy Cross Church and school making sure that whenever the church or school was in need, Norm made sure his church received it and didn’t go without. He was also a member of the Wallace Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus and the Knight of Columbus Council #12652 of Holy Cross Church. Survivors include one sister, Yvette Chalifoux of Lewiston, 2 nieces, Marguerite McKeown and her husband, Mac of Lewiston; and Dorothy Chabot of Lewiston; five nephews, Philip Chabot and his wife, Gisele of Lewiston, Gene Chabot and his wife Jackie of Dunedin, FL; Michael Chabot of Lewiston, Dr. Roland Chalifoux and his wife, Libby of McMurray, PA, and Maurice Chalifoux of Lewiston. As well as many grand nieces and grand nephews. Also surviving is Norm’s special companion, Margaret Ross of Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Norm’s life will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church of the Prince of Peace Parish.
