Lewiston - Philip Leland Brooks, age 65 and a resident of Lisbon, died Wednesday afternoon February 15th at Central Maine Medical Center with family at his side. He was born in Lewiston June 22, 1946, a son of Leland P. and Laura (Craw) Brooks. Philip was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. Mr. Brooks was a Military Veteran having served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War until his Honorable Discharge. He first worked for a number of years at Knapp Shoe and later worked as a Security Guard at St. Mary’s Hospital until his retirement.
He was a member of Rabboni Masonic Lodge AF & AM # 150 of Auburn, the American Legion Post 153 of Auburn for 42 years, in which he was very active doing volunteer work and was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1603. Philip was also an active volunteer for the Shriners and Shriners' Childrens' Hospitals and enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed the company of kids. He loved animals, regularly donating to the SPCA and gave regularly to adult homeless shelters. He was a loving, giving, hard-working and kind man who will be dearly missed.
He leaves his companion of 15 years, Janet Joyce of Lisbon;
a step-daughter Amy Osborne and her husband Tim of Auburn;
five grandchildren Zachary Polley, Zaryn Hall, Cameron Osborne, Meghan Staples and Jermare Spraggins; his sister Gail Brooks; and his bother Gary Brooks, both of Lewiston and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral Notice:
Brooks, Philip Leland, 2/15/12. A Memorial Service will take place Wed. at 12 Noon in the chapel at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mt Vernon Rd. Augusta. At his request, there are no visiting hours.
There will also be a celebration of his life at the Masonic Lodge at 1021 Turner St. in Auburn ME at 12:00 on Saturday, February 25, 2012.
Those wishing may make donations in his memory to American Cancer Society.
