

AUBURN -Raymond A. HawkinsHe was born in Leeds, Maine on June 28: 1924, the son of Fraser and Frances Hawkins.He met Arlene Wallingford while working at her father's farm and thought the 'farmer'sdaughter was awful cute'. Shortly after he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and beforesailing off, he and Arlene were married on February 19, 1944. - a marriage that lastedfor 64 years. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Machinists Mate, serving in CapeMay, N,J, California, Texas and the Philippines, and was honorably discharged in 1948.He attended school in Monmouth and later graduated from the Auburn Maine School ofCommerce in 1951 in accounting. He worked at Auburn Motor Sales and MarcotteChevrolet as comptroller/office manager before starting his own accounting business in1956. He and his wife handled accounting and income tax services for countlessbusinesses and individuals, many of whom became good friends. He retired in 1998.His local activities included serving on the Sarah Frye Home Board for 51 years and astheir Treasurer for 35 years. He was a corporator for the Auburn Public Library., amember of Maine Association of Professional Accountants, a member of AMVETS Post#6. He was a 32 degree Mason, Tranquil Lodge #29 AM & FM, Kora Temple Shrine,Abou Ben Adhem Lodge, Pine Cone Chapter #26, OES, and Nor'Easter Maine Chapter,M.I. Hummel Club.He enjoyed fishing trips with his brothers, traveling - especially on many cruises,gardening and yard work. He was 'the great fixer' of all things and loved to 'tinker withanything that needed tinkering'. His laughter, wonderful sense of humor and kindness toall who knew him will be greatly missed.Survivors include his wife Arlene, daughters Raylene and husband David Scott of CostaRica and Rebecca Hawkins and partner Jayne Ottman of Jackson Hole, Wyoming,grandsons Christopher and Matthew Scott, brother David Hawkins, sisters Joan Esmanand Patricia Morrissette and many nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Jewell Bendler, Laura BrownAllen and Elaine Spencer, and by brothers Norman and Wilbur Hawkins. HAWKINS died in Auburn, November 4, 2008, Mr. Raymond A. Hawkins age 84 years a resident of Auburn. Memorial services honoring Ray's life will be held SUNDAY 4:00PM at Calvary Methodist Church, Lewiston with Reverend Casey Collins presiding. Naval military honors will be held at the conclusion of services at church. Burial will be private at Mt.
