Richard "Jake" Edward Merrill, affectionately known as Jake, passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on March 24, 1946, in Bath, Maine, Jake was the cherished son of Robert and Meredith (Ellis) Merrill. He spent his formative years in Maine and graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1965.
After completing high school, Jake entered the Army, where he served for two years in communications, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his military service, Jake worked in Connecticut, held many jobs in Maine. His last job was at Dingley Press, where he worked diligently until his retirement. In his later years, he found fulfillment as a parts driver for NAPPA Auto Parts.
In 1982, Jake married Sharon Ouellette, and they shared 29 wonderful years together until her passing in 2011. In 2013, Jake found companionship with Ronnie Paradis, and they remained devoted to each other until his passing.
Jake was a man of many interests. He found joy in woodworking, creating cribbage boards and shadow boxes. A sports enthusiast, he loved watching Boston sports teams but held a special place in his heart for the Cowboys. He also enjoyed fishing, sitting by the fire, and working on puzzles.
A gentle, hard-working, honest, kind-hearted, and faithful man, Jake was an active member of Pathway Vineyard Church and the Webber Club in Lewiston. Though he was a simple person who kept to himself, his wisdom and loving nature touched many lives. His presence will be greatly missed.
The family extends special gratitude to his step-daughter, who provided unwavering support throughout his life and medical care during his last few years and final days.
