Robert E. Crossley

AUBURN- Robert E. Crossley, 90, of 99 Sunderland Drive, Auburn passed away on Monday November 26, 2007 after a 20 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on September 14, 1917 in Clearfield, Pa., the son of Irene and Jay Crossley. Bob graduated from Williamsport, Pa. High School in 1936 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY. in 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1937 to 1945. His career spanned 38 years in the Paper industry in the U.S. and Canada from Portland, Oregon to Millinocket, Maine. Of the five different companies he was employed by, the most recent was a Manager of Engineering at the former Boise Cascade in Rumford. Bob played ice hockey at RPI under Coach Ned Harkness and was also an accomplished figure skater and downhill skier, which he picked up at the age of 48. During his years in the Navy he saw the world and traveled to all seven continents. While stationed in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska he was part of the ADAK Gang which was involved in the invasions of Adak, Attu and Kiska. He attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and spent most of his time aboard the Mugford, Santa Fe and San Saba. He is survived by his wife Beverly and three children, Sanna and her husband Bill Purcell of New York, Lori Ann Crossley of Saco, Maine and Todd Crossley of Auburn; one grandson Brandon Purcell of Berkley, Ca. The family would like to give thanks to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and a special thank you to Jeanne. NOTICE Crossley- Died in Auburn Monday November 26, 2007.
