

AUBURN- Rose T. Thurston, 95, of 440 Minot Avenue, Auburn died early Tuesday morning September 29, 2015 at Clover Manor Health Care Facility. She was born in Auburn, Maine on March 15, 1920 the daughter of the late Fred and Alice (Vickery) Tufts and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She was educated in Auburn schools and was a graduate of Edward Little High School Class of 1938.
She had married Allan R. Thurston on June 29, 1946; and he died on April 10, 2009.
She was employed as a teacher for three years at Lake Street School and then for fifteen years as director and teacher at the Court St. Baptist kindergarten school. Rose served on several boards and committees at the Court St. Baptist Church where she was a member there for over sixty-two years. She was also a member of the Purpose Club. She enjoyed her family and family gatherings, camping, singing in the church choir and playing the piano. She enjoyed baking cakes for the Central Maine General Hospital coffee shop and knitting sweaters. Rose touched many lives with her smile and her positive outlook on life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three daughters Barbara Fisher of Greene, Peggy Vining and her husband Mert of Turner and Nancy Pomeroy and her husband Reggie of Hebron; one brother Everett Tufts of Readfield; one grandson Michael Pomeroy of Claremont, NH; two step granddaughters Kelly Vining of Corvallis, Oregon and Melissa Stundick of Maryland; two step-great granddaughters Taylor and Brady Stundick of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services honoring Rose’s life will be celebrated on Friday at 1:00 PM at the Court St. Baptist Church in Auburn. Committal services will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
