Shirley A. Carrier passed away at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a brief illness on December 1, 2025. She was born in Fort Fairfield on August 9, 1936, and spent much of her youth in Fort Kent before moving to Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School and married her husband Bernard (Bernie) Carrier in August of 1958. Together they lived in Lewiston until 2023, before moving to Gorham to assisted living at the Gorham House.
She enjoyed her work at JC Penney and her personnel duties for more than 40 years where she made many lifelong friends.
After retiring, she volunteered in the community at St. Vincent DePaul thrift shop, the Lewiston Public Theater and in support of events sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crossstitch, sewing, JC Penney retiree luncheons and watching Lewiston City Council meetings on TV.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Loanna Rioux and her brother Elbridge (Bill) Rioux. She is survived by her husband Bernard of 67 years, her three children and their spouses, Donna and Jim Katsiaficas, David and Michelle Carrier and Susan and Steven Dobieski, and 6 grandchildren – Aaron and Seth Dobieski, Caitlin, Nathan and Jacob Katsiaficas, and Lucas Carrier.
