Stanley was born in Lewiston, Maine on May 1, 1944, son of the late Walter and Irene (Hamel) Janas and youngest of three children. He attended Lewiston High School, graduating in 1962, and was a proud member of the marching band and enjoyed playing his clarinet for his children when they were young. After high school, Stanley served four years in the US Navy including on the USS Lake Champlain (CV-39) during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly after his discharge from the Navy, Stanley began to work at Bath Iron Works where he remained employed until his retirement.
Stanley married Diane Landry on April 12, 1971 and, together, they raised their two children in the home that Stanley and his father built on Sherbrooke Ave. In his younger years, Stanley enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and hunting with his son as well as many family camping trips to Mt Blue. Stanley also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with Diane as well as taking rides to the beach and bird watching.
Always known to be quick with a joke and some wildly entertaining pranks, Stanley helped to create many fond memories; especially while he was “upta-camp” at his sister’s house on Sabattus Lake. He enjoyed visiting with his family and was very proud of his four grandchildren.
Stanley’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Diane, as well as son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Debra Janas of Andover, MA and daughter and son-in-law: Kelly and Alexey Gerasimov of Billerica, MA.
Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Nolan, Claire, Nick and Andy; sister and brother-in-law: Gloria and Joe “Tee” Rousseau; two brothers-in-law: Joseph (Irene) Landry and Gerry Tardif along with several nieces and nephews for whom Stanley cared deeply.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom Janas.
