

LEWISTON- Sylvio J. Plante, 90, of Lewiston formerly of Poland, Maine died Saturday June 20, 2009 at Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side following a short illness. He was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on December 16, 1918 the son of Robert and Philomene (Roy) Plante. He served with the U.S. Army in WWII from 1942 to 1945. He was a truck driver and served with 1979th QMC in Africa and Italy. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.After coming to Lewiston, he met and married the love of his life Daisy C. Robbins on July 2, 1949.He retired from Bates Mill in 1980 where he worked as a fabric cutter. Sylvio enjoyed working outdoors on his property in Poland, his Saturday morning grocery trips with his daughter and visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters Crystal Dionne and her husband Don of Lewiston and Barbara Healy of Cromwell, CT; step-son Clayton Phillips and his wife Pat of Mechanic Falls; a sister Theresa Plante of Auburn; three grandchildren Karen Boucher and her husband Brian, Kimberly McLeod and her husband Josh and Thomas Healy; and three great grandchildren Ella and Ethan Boucher and Ava McLeod.He was predeceased by his wife Daisy on October 12, 2004; two step-sons Raymond and Kenneth Stewart; a step-daughter Ruby Clukey; two sisters Gertrude Plante and his twin sister Dorothy Plante.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on M4 for the excellent care during his final moments and Tina, his caregiver at the Marshwood Rehabilitation Center. A Celebration of Life service honoring Sylvio's life will be celebrated on Wednesday 11AM from the memorial chapel of Dillingham & Son followed by Military Honors.
