Auburn- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Verna. She passed on November 2nd, surrounded by her children.
Mom was born on December 17, 1939 in Madawaska to Patrick and Edna (Daigle) Martin. She was the youngest of five children, raised in Lewiston’s Little Canada, where she met and married her husband. Together, they had four children: Brenda, Michael, Sharon and Christie.
Mom worked at various jobs through the years including, Grant’s Department Store, Dairy Hut/Little Hobo (where her love of chocolate ice-cream was discovered), Marco’s Restaurant, Marcotte Nursing Home and Saint Mary’s Hospital. In Mom’s adult life, she worked hard to earn her GED and CNA certificates. She found her calling at Marcotte Nursing Home where she worked as a CNA for many years, enriching the lives of others. She treated the residents like family.
After raising her children, Mom got promoted to “Meme”. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was immeasurable. They will all hold special memories of their Meme in their hearts.
Her hobbies included anything that involved family. She enjoyed cookouts, camping, board games, puzzles, reading and watching her shows on TLC, to name a few. Christmas was her favorite time of year! She was always up for shopping, wrapping, going for a ride to look at the lights and snow!
At the time of her passing Mom lived at Chapman House in Auburn where she had resided for the past seven years. While there, she made many friends with her quick wit and sense of humor. The family would like to thank the staff at Chapman as well as the staff at Beacon Hospice for their loving care. Mom loved you all, and so do we.
Although we will no longer see her every day, she will live on in our hearts until we meet again.
Verna is survived by her children and their spouses, Brenda (Marc) Cyr, Sharon (John) Hackett, Christie (Mike) Kyajohnian, and daughter in law Tammy Lasko. Her grandchildren, Amanda Denning, Dustin Barry, Eric Cyr, Lindsay (Steeve) Francois, Brittany Hackett, Ryan (Amanda Robbins) Cyr, Kellie (Kevin) Alatorre, and Alexis Hackett. Her great grandchildren Isaak Barry, Cambrea Witham, Elijah Cyr, Jace Barry, Liliana Alatorre, Kya Francois, and Lorena Alatorre. Many beloved nieces, nephews and friends, especially her dear, lifelong friend Darquise Landry. She was predeceased by her son Michael, great granddaughter Leticia Alatore, parents and siblings.
