Allen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen W. Wilson of Lexington, SC; his two daughters, Marcia Wilson of Lexington, SC and Lana (Tom) Cronin of West Columbia, SC; one sister, Barbara Jean Grover of East Dublin, GA, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by four brothers, Horace, Eddie, Leonard, and William.
Allen graduated from Denmark High School in 1953, and then joined the U.S. Army. He served from 1953-1956 and, after being honorably discharged, attended Palmer Business College, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Accounting. Allen worked at Savannah River Site, retiring from the Accounting Department after 32 years.
While in Denmark, Allen was a member of Ghents Branch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer. After moving to Lexington, he moved his letter to Laurel Baptist Church. Allen enjoyed spending time with his family, including his “grand-kitties”. He also loved watching westerns on the GRIT channel, going to the beach to watch the ocean waves, and helping pack Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
He will be greatly missed, but we know he is with our Lord Jesus Christ and we will see him again.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Ghents Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Denmark, SC.
