

Arlene Johnson Quakenbush, 88, of Lexington, SC passed away on December 25, 2021. She was born in Burlington, NC on January 10, 1933. Arlene was the daughter of the late Walter and Anita Terrell Johnson.
Arlene enjoyed many years as a great seamstress for friends, family and an interior decorating company. At the age of 51, she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and went to work with Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, GA. In recent years, she spent time with art projects. She enjoyed a ministry of coloring and creating art for specific people. As she did, she would select colors just for that person and then prayed for them as she worked on the drawing for that loved one.
Arlene and her late husband, “Wink” were active members of Lake Murray Baptist Church enjoying their Sunday school class friends and many service activities. In their retirement, they enjoyed taking many trips around the USA, touring and exploring beautiful and new areas, meeting new friends while pulling their camper or riding with friends on Christian Tours’ buses.
She is survived by her youngest brother, Ronnie Johnson of Burlington, NC; sons, Allen Quakenbush (Melanie) of Lake Charles, LA, and Wendell Quakenbush (Bonnie) of Leesville, SC; grandchildren, Melina Fralick (Bryan), Caleb Quakenbush, Jessie Meloche (Andrew), Katie Quakenbush.
She is predeceased by husband, Wendell A. Quakenbush; sisters, Laura, Ruth, Maggie and Barbara; brothers, Willie, Earl, Walter “Tink”, Clarence, Albert, Richard, and Paul.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. Visitation will be one hour before service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
