Barbara Sealy Higgins went home to be with the Lord on May 27th 2026. Barbara was born in Rock Hill, SC on April 12, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Robert Nelson Sealy, and Aggidel Smith Sealy. Barbara received BA and M.Ed. degrees from the University of South Carolina. She was a teacher for 30 years and retired from Lexington/Richland School District 5.
Barbara was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was predeceased by her husband John R. Higgins, her sister Joan James, and brother Robert Nelson Sealy Jr.
Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lauren and Mark Pittman, her son Michael Higgins, a brother-in-law, Scott James of Columbia, sisters-in-law Alice Sealy of Columbia and Vera Higgins of Gaffney, SC, three grandchildren, one great grandson, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29212. A visitation/reception will be at the church following the service.
