The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately after the service.
Mr. Chambless was born January 15, 1942 in Savannah, GA, to the late Marion David Chambless and Gwendolyn D’Alma Moran Chambless. He was predeceased by his siblings, Sonny Chambless, Sherri Blanton, Buddy Chambless, and Dewayne Chambless. He is survived by his sister, Marlene Brown and brother, Donnie Chambless and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a loving sister-in-law, Margaret Ness, who handed him many a cookie and a glass of milk over the years with much love and care.
He moved to Columbia in the mid nineteen sixties, met the love of his life, Judy, and found great pleasure in calling Gilbert-Leesville his home for the last 10 years where he raised many different species of birds, including many beautiful peacocks.
He is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was known for his Christ-like love to everyone he met. He served in many callings including the Family History Library, but his most cherished calling was serving several years as an ordinance worker alongside his wife in the Columbia South Carolina Temple.
His greatest love in his life is his family. And his greatest joy is knowing his “Family is Forever”. He was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple to his eternal companion of 57 years.
He and his wife are blessed with three children, Deborah Redmond and her husband Wilbur, Pamela Chambless Melton and her husband David, and Dan Chambless, Jr. and his wife Heather. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. He cherished the relationships he had with his grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. He is blessed to have eleven grandchildren that all live within a few miles of his home. His grandchildren are Stephanie Redmond, Tiffanie Redmond, Brittanie Redmond, Whittanie Redmond, Nicholas Redmond, Brandon “Taylor” Chambless, Jacob Chambless, Gracen Chambless, Caleb Chambless, Spencer Melton and Lauren Melton.
He enjoyed many hobbies in life, with his most recents being gardening and a passion for peacocks. He had a love for genealogy and family history which he taught for many years in church. He always enjoyed old cars and loved talking to people about his 1953 Ford truck. He was the happiest at home with his family and contented with hobbies that could be done without leaving home.
His family will have the honor of being his pallbearers: Dan Chambless Jr., Wilbur Redmond, Nicholas Redmond, Taylor Chambless, Jacob Chambless, Caleb Chambless, Spencer Melton.
The immediate family would like to invite family and friends to the interment in Gilbert, SC.
