David Edward Luce, a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He will be remembered as a man whose life was built on hard work, love, laughter, and generosity.
David dedicated 47 years of his life to Culpeper Wood Preservers, where his strong work ethic and skill earned him the respect and admiration of his coworkers. He was the kind of man who could build or fix just about anything—a true craftsman with capable hands and a humble heart.
Family was at the center of David’s world. He often said that the years he spent raising his children were the best years of his life. He cherished evenings with his family, throwing the softball, building bird houses, going to the pool, and grilling out. He treasured weekends at state parks with them, camping, hiking, and hanging out by the fire while sharing his signature sense of humor. He was a pillar of dependable advice, cautious wisdom, and deep comfort. He had a knack for boiling down a problem to help you see all the pieces clearly. David had a way of filling a room with warmth and joy; he was as sweet and silly as he was steadfast and dependable.
A proud Carolina Gamecocks fan, David cheered passionately for his team. He also cheered just as hard for the people he loved—always encouraging, always giving, and always kind.
David’s life was one of quiet strength, deep devotion, and endless love. His hands built so much, but his heart built even more. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and family bonds that will never fade.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and lovingly remembered every day.
David was predeceased by his mother, Dorothea Luce; father, Charles Luce; and brothers, Steve Luce and Mark Luce.
He is survived by his daughters, Brooke Luce, Jennifer Amanda Hollis (Houston), and Alyxandria Luce; grandchildren, Payton Stevenson, Pierce Stevenson, Cruz Coulter, Finn Schley, and Oliver Mitchell; brother, William Luce; sisters, Elizabeth McKinney and Cynthia Luce-Bellamy; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
