

Elise Murphy Harmon, 83, died November 4, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease. She was born July 8, 1938 in Columbia, SC, the daughter of Mamie Dinkins Murphy and Joseph Callie Murphy.
Elise graduated from Columbia High School, Class of 1957. Following graduation, she married the love of her life, Carl Wesley Harmon, of Lexington, in 1957. The newly married couple settled in West Columbia. Shortly after their marriage, the young couple would establish Chapin Concrete Company in Chapin, SC. The loving couple had a beautiful happy life together.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Wesley Harmon; daughter, Cathy Harmon Sox; sister, Lucille Evans; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Ms. Jacob Wesley Harmon of West Columbia.
Surviving, in addition to her daughters, Lisa Harmon Long and her husband, Mickey A. Long of Lexington, Kimberly Harmon Smith and her fiancé, Allen Shealy of Lexington; grandsons, Nicholas Kyle Hayes of Charlotte, NC, Cameron Lee Miller and his wife, Ashley Miller of Tampa, FL; granddaughters, Lauren Smith Jureka and her husband, Dr. Alex Jureka of Atlanta, GA, Ashlyn Smith Baxter and her husband, Jacob Baxter of Lexington, Kayla Kristine Sox of Cayce; great granddaughter, Blythe Elise Baxter and great grandson, Wesley Jacob Baxter of Lexington; son-in-law, Christopher Sox of West Columbia; brother, Joseph Murphy and wife, Barbara Murphy of West Columbia; aunt, Betty Dinkins of West Columbia; sister-in-law, Lorene Harmon of Lithonia, GA and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Elise had a wonderful long life, and she was adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sons-in-law. She had been a member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Elise was loved by all that met her and could light up any room with her smile. Her love for her family was immeasurable, as well as her love for God and the church. She loved to bowl, sing in the choir, watch the Gamecocks play football, and play corn hole with family and friends. However, her favorite hobby was traveling to various places around the world, and she had totally completed her travel bucket list. She was adventurous and left no stone unturned. Her strength, along with her faith in God, will always be an inspiration to all that loved her. She truly had a blessed life and will be greatly missed.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169 with interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are Troy Murphy, Richard Miller, George Hayes, Scott Smith, Allen Shealy and Matthew Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mount Tabor Lutheran Church.
