Ella R. Calvert-Bouknight, age 79, of Lexington, SC was a loving, caring, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in Durham, NC on September 17, 1942 and passed away the morning of Sunday, August 22, 2022. She was the oldest of three children from Mat Constatine Raymond, Sr. and Dorothy Burnett Raymond of Raleigh, NC. Her two surviving siblings are Mat C. Raymond, Jr. of Jacksonville, NC and Joan R. She graduated high school from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC. She then received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. Shortly thereafter, she began working in the Lab at Lexington Medical Center where she met the love of her life, Dr. Guy A. Calvert Jr., MD, head of the Pathology Lab at the Lexington Medical Center.
Ella was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Guy A. Calvert Jr., MD (age 57) and her second husband, Joseph Walter Bouknight.
Ella loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her friends and family. Her best friend, Charlotte Compton and she were well known for their absolutely delicious "Aunt Ella's English Toffee" and they made sure that everyone around always received at least a small bag of this delectable treat. Ella was involved heavily in the community as a member of the Riverbanks Zoo Board; she was a member of the Lexington County group of Les Bon Ami; she was an avid Christian and reader of the Bible. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, SC. She enjoyed traveling the world with her late second husband, Joe Bouknight and they loved telling stories of all of their travels. She was liked and loved by all who she encountered. Consider yourself a lucky person if you ever had some of her famous recipes like Ella's Chicken Salad, Lemon Pound Cake, and English Toffee-----basically anything she cooked was delicious.
She is survived by her son, Guy A. Calvert III "Pete" (age 43); his wife, Lynnea Calvert (age 44) of Lexington; their kids and her only grandson, Guy C. Calvert (age 12) of Lexington, Meagan D. Douglas (24) of Lexington and Hailey L. Douglas (21); her stepson, Brett Barron Calvert (age 55) of Myrtle Beach, SC and his two sons, Barron and Brendon, both of Myrtle Beach, SC.
