Evelyn Schneider Brittingham, 89, of Lexington, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and G’an’mama. Evelyn graduated from Newberry College with a degree in Elementary Education. She was an active member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church West Columbia, for many years before moving to Lexington where she joined St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. She loved to sew and cross stitch, using her hands to make gifts for many people. Her beautiful yard was a testament to her love for plants and flowers.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Jim Brittingham; two infant sons; parents, George and Eula Schneider; and three brothers, James, Kenny, and George L. Schneider. Evelyn is survived by her children: Susan Van Tassel (Eric), Karen Flint (Bril), Truitt Brittingham (Brenda), and Mike Brittingham (Kerri); her grandchildren: David Van Tassel (Nicole), Emily Van Tassel, Laura Van Tassel, Blair Flint, Bril Flint, Meredith Pendley (Nick), J.T. Brittingham (Mari), Caroline McEntire (Morgan), Emily Brittingham, Jim Brittingham, Trent Brittingham, and Grant Brittingham; and her great-grandson, Oliver Pendley. They will continue to “keep her proud"— a promise they made each time they told her goodbye.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Pat Riddle and Pastor Jason Antley officiating. Family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Stephen’s Building Fund, or J.T. Brittingham Sr. Endowed Fund BFP-298, University of South Carolina, Business Partnership Foundation, 1014 Greene St., Columbia, South Carolina 29208 or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Christopher Wicker and the staff of Carroll Campbell Place for the loving care they provided to our beloved Evelyn.
