Everett Charles "Ernie" Ernst was born on July 24, 1946, in a farmhouse in Mapleton Iowa, the middle child of Everett Carl Ernst and Arvilla Del Guthrie. On July 8, 1964, Ernie entered the US Air Force at Los Angeles, California. In 1969, he was stationed in American Samoa where he met Normlyn Jo Cummings. They were married there on April 1, 1970. Ernie was a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Shield/Storm. He served with distinction for 27 years earning the Meritorious Service Medal w/device, AF Commendation Medal w/ device, AF Achievement Medal w/devices, RVN Gallantry Cross w/devices and the RVN Campaign Medal.
Everett was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Nancy Ann Ernst, and brother, Michael Jay Ernst. Ernie is survived by Jo, his wife of almost 45 years; daughter, Laura Lyn Ernst; son, Everett Carl Ernst III and his wife Dorothy Diane Smith; two granddaughters, Amy Jolyn and Evelyn Mae Ernst; and one brother, Richard Brian Ernst of Kerrville Texas. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home on January 3, 2015.
