

CAYCE - Gene Tunney Corbett, 87, of Cayce, passed away peacefully and comfortably at home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in the company of his loving family. Born December 20, 1926, he was the son of George Olin and Delilah Josephine Salley Corbett. He was the last surviving member of his eight siblings. He was predeceased by his parents; 3 brothers, Tom, Dupree, and George; and 4 sisters, Ruby, Donnie, Emily, and Elaine. He graduated from Salley High School and worked 38 years for Norfolk Southern Railway as a trainman and conductor. He was a faithful member of State Street Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the ABC Sunday school class.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight and a half years Mildred Stevenson Corbett, their children, George and Jill Corbett, Patrice and Jack O’Neal, and Renee and Jack DeBruhl; grandchildren, Connor, Caroline, Corrie, John Leaman, Melissa, Marcus, and great granddaughter Hannah, and many loving nieces, nephews, and neighbors. His greatest joys in life were spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 4:00 p.m. at State Street Baptist Church, with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
