        Till we meet again Grady !
   I played pool as a kid , or thought I did .  I had the honor of watching ,your mastery of pool when you lived in Detroit , in the late 80's and I was in my mid 20's . You were the Greatest , most knowledgeable and complete player I ever saw ! These were the days of the " Rack " , Color of Money and The Cushion Cue & Brew Monthly Tournament's which I donated my entry fee just to have the privilege and chance to play, learn from and use the knowledge I had accrued by being around you . 
    You would allow me to sit on the stool next to you when you played your matches well after my day had ended . I would sit still and quiet as a statue in respect and caution not to be a bother , but you Never once allowed me to feel I was . In fact you would speak to me when you sat down , even advising me of what and why you had just done what you had !
    My admiration and frequent talk of your extraordinary ability as a player , humorously resulted in my moniker of  " Grady Jr." , which Sadly for me never reflected in my game .
    You have no idea what a gift to the game of billiards you are !
                 Thank You for giving so much to so many !

I always enjoyed your friendship and perspective on life. Grady Mathews will never be duplicated. You were unique in every sense of the word and the best promoter of the sport , especially one pocket the pool world has ever known. Truly loved the partner games with Pete Fusco and Billy Incardone. My deepest condolences to Grady's family; he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  I was a student of Grady's for a brief time in the mid 1990s.  I would drive up from Augusta to his home outside of Columbia where he had a table set up in his garage.  As enjoyable as the lessons on the table were, more enjoyable still was the time spent sitting at his kitchen table shooting the breeze and listening to his stories.  My wife, who came with me on several of those trips, and I were very fond of Grady Mathews.

I got to play Grady two games back in the mid 90's when he did a exhibition here in Western Pa. I actually won both games (got lucky) but what a thrill it was just to play him. Afterwards we hung out and he told us his old road stories and I picked his brain. He was very accommodating and in short, a true ambassador to the game. I learned more from one of his videos then I learned from anything else I ever saw. The man was a gold mine in pool knowledge. A true professor of the game. They don't make them like that anymore. You taught me alot Grady, & your stories and sense of humor were an integral part of the person that was you. I will miss you, my friend - your grin, your voice and that devilish twinkle in your eyes. Tell Poochie & Red hi, & I'll see y'all when I get there! Keep in mind that I'll be needing a lot of weight though!

It was my pleasure to have had you touch my life; I will always cherish the  memories and the stories! Rest in peace my friend, the world was a better place while you were still with us!

I often heard of Grady Matthews and did not realize what an extraordinary man and billiards player he was. As I sought to learn more about him by reading what I could find online and in the pages of the billiard magazines, it became clearer to me. He was a smart opponent, as many who came up against him found out. 

The world has lost another great one.

I will always remember when I met you in Austin. Marie and Grady, my heart goes out to you guys in your time of sorrow, you are in my prayers. I will miss Grady, seeing him at some of the venues from time to time, Ive known him for 20 + years and I can say his advice made me a better person and the world is a lesser place
