
LEXINGTON – Funeral service for Jack Rush Tanner, 80, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Red Bank United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Bank UMC Building Fund, 2909 Old Barnwell Road, Lexington, SC 29073.
Active pallbearers will be Darrell Harbour, Mark Kyzer, David Tanner, Keith Boatwright, Bill Barrier and Glenn Day. Honorary pallbearers will be the John Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class.
Mr. Tanner was born May 13, 1931 in Lexington, SC and passed away on November 11, 2011. He was a son of the late Horace L. and Bertie Day Tanner. Mr. Tanner served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked at Savannah River Project, Allis Chalmers, and Michelin Tire Company. Mr. Tanner loved working in his yard and taking care of his pond and acreage. He was a lifetime member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and he was an avid Gamecock fan.
Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene Hewitt Tanner; daughters, Cathy Whiteside of Lexington, and Lisa Branham (Keith) of Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Ashley Butler (Bowe) of Durham, NC, Brandon Whiteside of Charleston, SC, Devon and Kelly Branham of Knoxville, TN; great-granddaughter, Reece Butler of Durham, NC; aunt, Katherine Sanders of Lexington; and his loyal companion, “Bruiser”. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Gerald, Billy, and infant, Kenith Tanner.
