

COLUMBIA – Janet Smith Speechley Donner passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Spruce Pine, NC. She was born on October 4, 1948 to Jane Ryan Graham Smith and Floyd Van Doren Smith at Fort Bragg, NC. She attended Lower Richland High School and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a nurse in the Columbia area for a number of years. Janet loved to travel and was fortunate to have lived in Italy, Germany and Japan while her father served his country in the military. Later after marriage she lived in the Phillippines.
She was predeceased by her father, Floyd Van Doren Smith and her brother Van. Those surviving her include her husband, William I “Bill” Donner; mother, Jane Ryan Graham Smith; son, Richard Latham Wilson; daughter, Kathleen Speechley Davis; grandsons, Logan Wilson and Ethan Davis; granddaughters, Amaya and Alexia Davis; uncle, Thomas H. “Tom” Jones and wife, Phyllis; special friends, Anne Smith Nash and William A. “Bill” Gould and a number of special cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The service will be conducted by her cousin, the Rev. Kenneth Gooch. Visitation will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 508 Hampton Street, Suite 200, Columbia, SC 29201-2765 or to Hospice Palliative Care of Mitchell County, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 or to a favorite charity in memory of Janet.
