John was born in 1946 in Birmingham, AL and grew up to attend Auburn University where he majored in Engineering, was a proud member of the Army ROTC program, a fraternity brother of Kappa Sigma and where he met Joanne and fell in love. After graduation, they married and he began a long, respected career in engineering. He worked for utility companies in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and North Carolina before retiring in November 2017. He was also a decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, serving over 25 years.
With a deep love for family, they decided to grow their own. As a father to Austin, Lauren, and Katy, he was generous, loving, supportive and kind. He became a grandfather in 2009 and will fondly be remembered as Granddaddy to Aaron (14), Owen (8), Harper (4) and Henry (2).
In 2014, John and Joanne returned to Auburn to enjoy retirement in the place that brought them together. In their free time, they enjoyed travelling all over the world, spending time with their friends, family, and Holy Trinity church family, and anything involved with Auburn University!
John is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne and survived by his son, Austin (Sarah); his daughters, Lauren and Katy (Marc); and his four grandchildren, Aaron, Owen, Harper and Henry.
There will be a memorial service for those who would like to attend on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 am, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Church Drive in Auburn.
We think about you always, we talk about you still. You have never been forgotten, and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Hood family.
