It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Jerry” Reay, age 77, who departed from this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024. A memorial service to honor his memory will take place on Sunday, August 18, at 6:00 PM at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel.
Jerry was born on October 23, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was raised by his parents, Albert Parlak and Helenann Krivoniak. Jerry’s journey was marked by a strong work ethic, and a deep love for his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diana; daughter, Leanne Kyzer (Jace) of Lexington, South Carolina; daughter, Khelly Ford (Justin) of Murray, Kentucky; son, Jim Clement (Ann) of Eclectic, Alabama; daughter, Tracy Wilson (Mattrell) of Willow Spring, North Carolina; son, John Reay Jr. of N. Huntington, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Katlyn Acton (Chris) of Lexington, South Carolina; and grandson, Robert "RJ" Shank of Wilson, North Carolina. He was also a proud dog owner, and he often affectionately referred to his beloved dog Tinkerbell as his “favorite child.” His legacy lives on through his 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Jerry was also a cherished brother to William Reay (Linda), Debbie Fetch (Ken), and Jean Suskey, and he leaves behind a wealth of fond memories to share. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Sandra Shank, and his sister, Shirley Kaefer, both of whom he missed dearly.
Throughout his professional life, Jerry dedicated over 40 years to his career as an AMF mechanic and facility manager, and he could fix anything he touched. Beyond his work, Jerry had a passion for various hobbies that brought him fulfillment. He enjoyed woodworking and home improvement projects.
Gardening was another pastime he cherished and shared with friends and neighbors. His yard is a reflection of his dedication. He enjoyed being in nature and camping. He held many titles over the years, but his favorite was Pap.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family with the arrangements, and we invite those who knew Jerry to join us in celebrating his legacy and the impact he made on all of us.
