

Johnnie Danny Baum, age 78, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1st, 2023 after a sudden and brief battle with cancer. We take comfort in knowing that he was ready and knew Christ as his savior. This was not goodbye, but see you later!
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Baum, mother Helen Baum, and brother Burton Baum.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Tracy Baum (Denisse), Arthur Baum, Sheri Bond (Eric) and Brian Baum; grandchildren, Liela Farah, Austin Bond (Isabel), Wesley Bond, and Alyssa Bond; brother, Tola Baum (Kathy); brother-in-law, Walt Coward (Darlene); and a multitude of loving family and friends.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 21, 1944, to the late Joseph I., Jr. & Helen H. Baum. John graduated from Hialeah High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 4th, 1965. During his time, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge on August 3rd, 1971. He was employed by Eastern Airlines as an avionics electrician. In the final stage of his career, he was employed by Cordis as a technician in the tooling department until his retirement.
John was a longtime resident of Hialeah, Florida. He was a member of Sharon OPC Church in Hialeah, FL. Upon retirement, John and Carol along with their youngest son relocated to Lexington, SC. He attended Covenant Community Church in Lexington, SC.
John will forever be remembered for being a loyal husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He was always willing to go above and beyond to help anyone in need. John’s special talent was being able to fix just about anything. John and his wife took up a side hobby of thrifting and repairing sewing machines. This was a hobby that they both enjoyed doing as a team. His culinary skills were unmatched when it came to grilling and smoking meats. He had a love for fishing. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR and stockcar racing. These are two passions he shared with his youngest son, Brian. To know John was to remember him. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him, including his longtime friends from junior high and high school, to which he kept in touch with and spoke with on a regular basis up until his very final days. To be a friend of John meant friendship for a lifetime.
A visitation for Johnnie will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. A burial following service will occur Friday, July 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29229.
