Kathy was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on March 18, 1958 and was raised in Bamberg, South Carolina. She graduated from Newberry College in 1980 where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She later obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina.
Her passion for education was fulfilled by teaching preschool for many years. She was the Front Office Secretary at Rocky Creek Elementary where she lovingly greeted students, faculty, and parents with her warm and welcoming smile. Kathy was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering faith in God touched every part of her life. She carried a grace and beauty that brightened every room she entered, yet it was the beauty of her heart that outshined everything else.
Kathy was predeceased by her father, Charles Robert McMillan, Sr. and her mother, Rose Marie Corley McMillan. Her loving parents shaped her into the amazing woman that she was and whose spirit she carried with her each and every day.
She leaves behind her “my three sons” who were her heart and soul: Will Young (the “daughter she never had” Mary Young), Brad Young, and Chandler Young. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Everly, Corley, Harris, Kali, Cruze, Birdie, and Arlo Young; and brothers, Bob McMillan (Laura), Corley McMillan (Susan) and Mark McMillan (Kim). Her numerous nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart, Lauren, Kathryn (Cole), Robert, Andrew (Sydney), Griffin (Morgan), Parker (Leah), Cole (Erin), Bailey (Braden), Grace, Coast, Scout, Mills, and Cooper. Last but not least, her beloved furry best friend and companion, Rudy.
The celebration of life service to honor Kathy will be held on Monday, September 22 at 2:00 pm at Mount Horeb Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington, SC 29072.
