The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the bystanders and first responders who acted so quickly, heroically, and diligently in their efforts to save Ken.
Ken was a man of quiet strength, a generous heart, and an unforgettable sense of humor. He didn’t need to say much to make an impact; his kindness and steady presence spoke for him. If there was water nearby or a deer stand to sit in, that’s where you could find him. Hunting and fishing weren’t just hobbies-they were his peace, his joy, and his way of life.
Ken spent many years working as a truck driver before injuries led him to a new path as a school bus driver. It was there that he truly found his calling. He cared deeply for the children he drove each day-watching over them, and forming quiet bonds that meant the world to him. They held a special place in his heart.
In his spare time, Ken also enjoyed working on guns for others, always willing to lend his skill and help however he could. That was simply who he was-steady, capable, and always giving.
He is survived by his loving mother, Janie Evelyn Ray, his sisters Karen Ray Crouch (Chuck Crouch) and Kathy Ray Deans (Bobby Deans); numerous friends and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. One especially sweet memory shared by the family is of his two-year-old great-nephew, who visited him just three days before his passing. After returning home, Ian found a pair of scissors, cut his own hair, and told his mother he wanted to look just like Uncle Ken-a small but meaningful reflection of the love he inspired. He was preceded in death by his father, Bert B. Ray Jr. and by his sister Janet Ray Fallaw (John Fallaw).
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home located at 503 N Lake Dr. Lexington, South Carolina, with visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens located at 3111 Delree St, West Columbia, South Carolina.
Ken will be remembered for his quiet ways, his generous spirit, and the simple, genuine life he lived. There is a comfort knowing he spent his final moments in a place he loved, doing exactly what brought him peace.
