

LEXINGTON – Mrs. Lawanda Brogden, age 92, passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Home in Lexington, SC on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Born in Soperton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Lucille Curry. She was married to Elliott Brogden, Sr. in 1944, and they were happily married for 53 years until his death in 1997.
With her husband, Lt. Col. Brogden, they traveled all over the world in the United States Air Force. As his wife, she enjoyed hosting parties as well as attending them. Her passion was playing bridge, and she made many friends over the years that shared in that passion. She, along with her husband, enjoyed camping before he passed away. They were members of the Columbia Dirtdaubers Camping Club and the Mid-Carolina Camellia Society for many years. She was a volunteer for hospice and also delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a devoted member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church for years and made many dear friends there.
She is survived by her children, Elliott (Buck) Brogden, Jr. (Tricia), James (Jim) Brogden (Sharon), and Lucy Dixon (Randy); four grandchildren, Becky Blackwell, Lee Brogden, Chip Brogden and Scott Brogden, and five great-grandchildren, Amelia Brogden, L. J. Blackwell, Cooper Brogden, Lainey Brogden and Savannah Brogden. She was predeceased by one grandchild, Richard Dixon and one sister, Dannie Likes.
A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Ellen Skidmore in the chapel at the Presbyterian Home, 700 Davega Rd., Lexington, SC on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family. She will be cremated and her ashes, together with her husband’s, will be scattered over the family place that he loved so dearly, “the farm”.
