
LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Marguerite Coombs Rogers Caldwell, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Baptist Church Mission Fund, 308 E. Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.
Marguerite was born April 17, 1919 to John and Ina Coombs in Carroll County, Kentucky and passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012. She married Horace S. Rogers on August 10, 1941. To this union, three children were born; Linda Joyce Strain, deceased 1997, Wanda Lee Whitney of Georgetown, Texas and Rev. David Wayne Rogers of Lexington.
Marguerite was a busy housewife, moving often when the US Air Force changed their places to live. She always like to meet new people and started working with the base chapel or the church in the community where they lived. Marguerite worked with the Girl Scouts, Girls in Action and Acteens in many places.
After her husband’s retirement and entering full time ministry, her activities remained the same, caring for her family and working with the different departments in her church where ever she was needed. Her husband was called home in 1974.
In 1984, Marguerite married Bounds Caldwell and moved to Hattiesburg where they both enjoyed 18 years with friends that they made at Immanuel Baptist Church. Bounds was called home in 2001.
Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Wanda Whitney of Texas; son, David Rogers of Lexington; three grandchildren, Roger Lee Strain of San Antonia, TX, John David and Beth-Anne Rogers of Lexington; one sister, Bernice Rice of Anderson, IN; three brothers, Gayle Coombs of Greensburg, IN, John Wayne Coombs of Westport, IN and Mitchell B. Coombs of Atlanta, GA; many nieces and nephews and many treasured friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Morningside of Lexington, Lexington Extended Care and Lexington Medical Center for their kindness and care.
