With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Maria Denise Batista, who entered eternal rest on February 22, 2026, at the age of 51. While nothing could have prepared us for this loss, we find comfort in knowing how deeply she was loved and how many lives she touched.
Maria was more than just a wife and mother — she was the heart of her family. To her husband, Mario, she was a devoted partner and constant support. To her children, she was their rock, their safe place, and their greatest inspiration. She dedicated her life to providing them with opportunities to grow, succeed, and become the best versions of themselves.
To her precious granddaughter, Grace McFadden-Batista, she was a proud and adoring grandmother whose face would light up at every smile and accomplishment. The bond they shared was filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Maria was beautiful inside and out — smart, loving, caring, sweet, and funny. Her home was always open, and over the years she became a “mom” to many of her children’s friends. She had a loving heart that accepted many and made everyone feel welcome. Her kindness left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
In recent years, Maria embraced her passion for baking, chasing new adventures that brought people together. Whether through celebrations, gatherings, or simple moments at home, she had a gift for creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Though we grieve deeply, we are profoundly grateful for the life she gave us, the sacrifices she made, and the example she set. She shaped us into who we are today, and her strength and love will continue to guide us.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband, Mario Joao Batista; her loving sons, John Batista and Brian Batista; her cherished daughter, Breanna Batista; and her treasured granddaughter, Grace McFadden-Batista. She is also survived by her beloved parents, Manuel and Rosa Pereira; her sisters, Hilda Pereira and Sandra Barbosa; and her brother, Emmanuel Pereira, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
"As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." Isaiah 66:13 (NIV)
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 502 N Lake Dr, Lexington, SC 29072. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Southland Memorial Gardens.
Maria will be deeply missed and forever loved. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that love like hers never truly leaves us. It lives on in the lessons she taught, the memories we hold, and the “I love you’s” we will never take for granted again.
