

On Christmas Eve 2012, Marjorie Hamelin Horton, 84, "GiGi" to all who knew and loved her - passed from this worldly life to be with the Saviour. She was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on December 15, 1928 to the late Joseph and Edna Hamelin. The family later moved to Upstate New York where she met and married Fred Horton and shortly thereafter moved to Columbia, SC. She had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. She later joined Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Gigi was a homemaker, retail saleswoman, cosmetologist and caregiver who touched many hearts. She will be remembered by many from King’s Row, Rich’s and Steinmart and will be greatly missed by her family and staff at the Haven in the Summit where she had lived for the past 3 years.
GiGi loved life, her family and friends, music, dancing, and laughter. GiGi is survived by her daughters, Kim (Mark) Spires, Kathi (Ronaldo) Dominguez, Krista (Bruce) Meyer; grandchildren, Scott (Carla) Spires, Jennifer (Randy) Lee, Jason Hammond, Jonathan (Karla) Spires, Xan Kalk; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Rachel Lee, Nicole Hammond and Emily Spires; brother Herman Hamelin of Knoxville, TN. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Horton, three sisters and two brothers.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Palmetto Senior Care and The Haven at the Summit for the excellent care they gave our GiGi. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 4:00 pm at Kittiwake Baptist Church, 420 Kitti Wake Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kittiwake Baptist Church Food Pantry or Palmetto Senior Care @ SeniorCareMemoirs, 15 Richland Medical Park, Suite 203, Columbia, SC 29203.
