

LEXINGTON - Martha Jane Dixon Godshall went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2017. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Lexington, South Carolina, at the age of 85.
Martha Jane was born March 31, 1932, to Willard Rodolph Dixon and Bertie Banks Dixon in Greenville, South Carolina. She graduated from Greenville High School and attended Furman University and Lander University. After a career in State Law Enforcement, she achieved her lifelong goal by graduating from Greenville Technical College with a degree in nursing. Following her career of over 30 years as an oncology nurse, she retired from Lexington Medical Center.
Martha is survived by three children, Stanyarne Reid Godshall (Corinne) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Dawn Godshall Alewine (Edgar) of Lexington, SC, and Erich Anthony Godshall of Murrells Inlet, SC; four grandchildren, Coleman Thomas Parks, Jr. (Leslie) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Josephine Godshall Spender (Doug) of Boonton Township, NJ, Teleah Weslyn Alewine of Lexington, SC, and William Edgar Alewine of Lexington, SC; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Caroline, and Claudia Parks of Murrells Inlet, SC; two brothers, Thomas Dean Dixon of Lavonia, GA, Rodolph Dixon of Cayce, SC; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Volina Dixon Roper of Seneca, SC.
Martha was considered an angel on earth to those who knew her and received her care as a nurse. Her motto was “Always put the patient’s needs before her own”, and she inspired the students and staff at Lexington Medical Center with her tireless service and devotion. She was a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and volunteered as a reading mentor at Red Bank Elementary School.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, SC, with the funeral service immediately following at 12:00 noon. Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington.
