
LEXINGTON – Mary Louvenia Hendrix passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Known by friends and family as Bengie, she was born October 10, 1941 in Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of the late Earnest Marion and Margie Mathias and married George Robert Hendrix, Jr. in 1960. She is survived by three children; George Robert Hendrix III (Antonette) of Lexington; Melissa Dawn Hamilton (Doug) of Lexington; and Kimberly Hendrix Harmon (Billy) of Prosperity; six grandchildren; Rosanna Durst (Thomas), Sally (Corey) Warner, Hayley Hamilton, Zachary Hendrix, Victoria Hamilton, Will Harmon and one great grandson, Noah Warner. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Buck Mathias (Gwen) of Lexington; Jane Wallace (Deleon) of West Columbia; Linda Warner of Winnsboro; and David Mathias of Lexington. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Jeanie Mathias. Mrs. Hendrix was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church throughout her entire married life and served as a Sunday school teacher, LCW member and various committees. She loved her husband, George, and together they had a marriage that set the bar high for others to follow. She was an avid gardener and loved working outdoors, as well as decorating inside and arts and crafts. But above all, she was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as Memaw to her grandchildren whom she loved and adored very much. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nazareth Lutheran Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
