
LEESVILLE – Minnie Cromer Hughes, 77, of Leesville, SC passed away Friday, July 29, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with entombment to follow at The Chapel of Hope in Southland Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. The Rev. Beau Bradberry, pastor of Cedar Creek Church in Ridge Spring, SC, will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family request those attending the service dress casual.
Mrs. Hughes was born October 8, 1933 in Abbeville, SC. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Ervin Cromer. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and was employed by the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School in the accounting department. Minnie really enjoyed working in her yard attending to her beautiful roses and cooking meals for her family and friends. She had a servant’s heart. She attended First Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 60 years and the love of her life, Walter Reid; two daughters, Anita (John) Petrow of Miami, FL and Patsy (Allen) Best of Leesville, SC; sister, Jessie Ellis of Abbeville, SC; and a very special grandson, Connor A. Hughes of Irmo, SC. A special thanks to Connor’s mother, Brandy and stepfather, Patrick Vander Ploeg and a nephew Jimmy Ellis. She was predeceased by her son, Kevin Reid Hughes; her parents; and her brother, John H. Cromer, Jr.
Walter and Minnie’s wishes are in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Connor Aidan Hughes Trust Fund, Patsy Best Trustee, P. O. Box 2564, Leesville, SC 29070.
The Hughes family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Agape Senior on Leaphart Road, Agape Hospice and Dr. William Robinson for being our angels with their love and support during our time of need.
