LEXINGTON – Nell Monts Byrd, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Nell was born on September 13, 1930 in Lexington, SC to Melton Lee Monts and Eva Chicola Monts. After graduating from Lexington High School in 1947, where she was a member of the first women’s basketball team, she attended Draughon’s Business College in Columbia, SC. She was later employed at Dun & Bradstreet as a telegraph supervisor and The U.S. Army Procurement Department as a teletype supervisor. She retired from Southern Radio Corporation after 17 years of employment. She enjoyed gardening, driving the tractor and baking at her family’s property on Corley Mill Rd.
Nell is survived by daughter, Diane Revels Flashnick of Columbia, SC; grandson, Brett Ryan Flashnick (McKenzie) of Lexington, SC, and great-grand dog, Boomer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William E. Byrd, and her loyal companion, Babe.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m., on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, 226 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. A graveside service and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
