Peggy Cook Sox

Peggy Cook Sox, 95, widow of Willie L. Sox, Jr., passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025. Born February 14, 1930 in Lee County, she was the daughter of Samuel J. and Felicia Koon Cook. She graduated from Central High School (Bishopville) and Commercial College (Columbia) and worked for 20 years with Sylvan Jewelers and Lexington County ASCS office. Peggy then worked with her husband in the family business, Sox Well and Pump Company, until retirement.

Peggy was involved and active in numerous ministries of St. David Lutheran Church, including the David Sunday School class, Women of the ELCA and Young at Heart. She was a charter member of Oak Grove Civic Club and, for over 70 years, was a member of Oak Grove Family and Community Leaders (Home Demonstration) Club. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan, watching as many games as possible.

Peggy is survived by sons Marvin W. Sox (Renee) and Gerald W. Sox (Dina) and daughter Evelyn S. Varn (Gary). She is survived by grandchildren Brad Sox (Stacie), Kyle Sox (Lucy), Kevin Sox (Stephanie), Blake Sox (Dana), Heather Sox (Robby), Derek Sox (Tori), Anna Wingard (Greg), and Graham Varn (Charlotte) and great-grandchildren Camden, Brooke, Benjamin, Jacob, Marielle, Merritt, Matilda and Beckett.

Peggy is pre-deceased by her husband of almost 53 years, Willie L. Sox, Jr., parents Samuel and Felicia Cook, sisters, Mary Jones, Jeanette Reames, Betty Watts and brother James L. Cook and great-granddaughter Aveline Sox.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. David Church Road, West Columbia.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, located at 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
