After battling Alzheimer’s for several years, Dad’s body and mind finally gave up the fight. We are so thankful that he is now experiencing complete joy and peace in the presence of Jesus.
We can imagine him laughing (what a wonderful sound) and marveling at all of the beauty he’s seeing with the eyes and heart of the artist that he is.
Our daddy was loved by all who met him. He loved people just for them being people. He passionately loved music, enjoying such artists throughout his life as Lionel Richie, Elvis, Doobie Brothers, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Willie Nelson. When we were growing up, he would fill the house with music. He set up 4 huge speakers, one in each corner of our living room, and would set a chair in the middle of the room and listen to vinyl on his turntable. Jim Croce, Al Jarreau, and the like. I (Amber) remember once when I was about 5, watching Dad at the record player before church playing the Doobie Brothers.
He rode a Harley Davidson and, oh, how he loved the freedom it gave him!
He loved us girls more than anything and was always a doting father. Despite his dementia, he never forgot who we were.
Dad was truly a brilliant artist and illustrator. He illustrated for publications such as Boys Life, once did the art for a CD cover for Vanessa Williams, was commissioned to do a portrait for Willie Nelson, and had his paintings displayed in galleries in Africa and Hawaii.
