She was born on March 25, 1959, in Burlington, NC. Denece was a tireless champion for causes dear to her heart, including equal rights, social welfare, and social justice.
Denece dedicated her professional life to serving others as a Registered Nurse. She managed several physician practices in Kansas and Guam and was well-respected by her peers for both her leadership and expertise. She then worked for many years as a hospice nurse providing impeccable end-of-life care and later, as a certified case manager, tirelessly advocating for patients to receive the necessary services to maintain their quality of life. Prior to her death, she worked as a clinical documentation specialist.
Denece is survived by her son, Timothy Michael Evans of Columbia, SC; her brother, Donald “Donnie” Holt, Jr (Sharon) of Burlington, NC; nephews Wesly Holt (Ali) of Garner, NC and Jason Holt of Burlington, NC; and great-niece, Morgan Holt and great-nephews, Barrett, Conor and Malcolm Holt. She is also survived by many dear friends, whose love and support throughout her life was immeasurable, most especially her beloved friends and dedicated caregivers, Elaine Lindler, Christine Hunnicutt, and Heather Liafsha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Novella McAdams Holt and Donald Holt, Sr; by her brother, Michael Loy; and by her husband, Michael Evans.
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr Mohamed El Geniedy and the entire staff of SC Oncology Associates, most especially the chemo nurses who took care of Denece, for their expertise, support and compassion.
A celebration of Denece’s life will be held at a later date.
