Richard's career was as multifaceted as his interests. He retired from the Atlanta Journal, and his healing hands were known through his work as a chiropractor. Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of many talents and hobbies. His love for the piano could only be matched by his enthusiasm for the arts, which was evident in his own creations. He was also a writer, having authored a book.
An avid collector, Richard found joy in surrounding himself with books and a plethora of items that reflected his wide-ranging curiosities and zest for knowledge.
Richard is survived by his brother, Dr. David Tool, along with David's wife, Sharon, and their children, Ehren and Shannon. He was also the cherished uncle to his late sister, Dr. Susan Tool’s sons, Devin and Baird Ihme, whose adventures and successes brought him great pride. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Joe Schwarz and Joe's daughter, Brenda Schwarz Miller.
Richard's absence will be profoundly felt by those who knew him, but his memory will be carried forward in the stories shared among his family and the enduring presence of his art, his music, and the impressions left through his writings.
In memory of Richard, his family asks that any donations be made to local art programs to foster creativity in the community that Richard loved so much.
A gathering to celebrate Richard's and his sister’s lives will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington at 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072 on Sunday, November 19th, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All who knew and loved Richard are welcome to join and commemorate a life that was as generous as it was full.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanlexington.com for the Tool family.
