Ready, 75, of Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Robert was born May 16, 1947 in Columbia, SC and passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He was the son of the late Thomas David Ready Jr. and Ora Priester Ready. He was raised with his two brothers in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School. He met the love of his life, Dianne, at 17 and they began their amazing journey together. Robert started his career as a door-to-door salesman for United Insurance Company in Columbia, SC. He spent over 25 years with the company and it took him with his family to Aiken, Birmingham, Annapolis and Chicago where he finished as the Chief Agency Officer. Robert had the special ability to make everyone he met along the way feel important and like a friend. He was deeply invested in the people that he loved and truly wanted the best for them. He was known by all for his deep, baritone voice. Robert was happiest when his path brought him back home to South Carolina. He loved college football and was a lifelong Gamecock fan. He was passionate about politics and loved a good red wine and filet mignon. His many interests included pontoon boating on Lake Murray, cars, coin collecting, and maintaining his beautifully landscaped yard. He spent much of his retirement serving on the board of Yacht Cove and giving back to the community he loved. Robert was immensely proud of his three children and their spouses and his four grandchildren. He loved God and found peace in His word. His lasting legacy will be his example of a wonderful father, loyal friend and mentor.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Dianne, and his brothers, Tommy Ready and Wyatt Ready. He is survived by his daughter, Tresa Holley (Bill) of Virginia; son, Bobby Ready (Annette) of Maryland; daughter, Natalie Gray (Chad) of Texas; grandchildren, Diana, Wyatt, Robert, and Levi; and his many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be missed all the days of our lives.
