

GILBERT - Ronald Robert Romano, age 82, passed away at home on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Ron was born April 22, 1933 to Marie (Azzara) and Jack Romano in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn. He lived in Gilbert, SC with his loving and loved wife, Clarice Antoinette (Galli) Romano.
As a young boy in White Plains, NY, Ron attended Catholic schools where he was an altar boy, attending daily mass alongside his faithful dog, Taffy. He graduated from Cardinal Farley Military Academy in Rhinebeck, NY before serving in the United States Navy for 5 years, including time in South Korea. After being honorably discharged he spent 9 years working in the family restaurant, Delmonico’s in Westchester, NY. He then became a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight where he worked for over 30 years. In 1965 Ron and Clarice moved to Shelburne, VT where they lived until 1983. At that time they moved to Gilbert, SC when Ron took the job as Safety Director for Leaseway Corporation. He retired in 1999, happy to spend his time at their home on Lake Murray. Ron lived life to its fullest with his loving family as he enjoyed his pets, motorcycling, boating, snowmobiling, fishing and traveling. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and a lover of all corny jokes. He is survived by his wife, Clarice; his daughter, Sondra (Romano) Brooker and her husband, Randy Brooker of Shelburne, VT and their children, Christina and Dillon; his son, Michael Romano of Michigan, and his children, Shawna and her husband, Dan Sheriff, Andrea, and Ronnie; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Noah and Ethan Sheriff; and his sister, Rosemarie Cartularo of Ferrisburgh, VT.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. Funeral Service will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:30 a.m., followed by entombment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the helpful and gracious men and women at the Hollow Creek Fire Station, 117 Beulah Church Road, Gilbert, SC 29054.
