
LEXINGTON - Roy David Wingard, age 89, of Lexington, SC passed away on January 9, 2018. He was the son of the late Florence Corley Wingard and Elmer Eugene Wingard of Lexington. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Billie Paschal Wingard and his four sisters, Dorothy Wingard George, Helen Elizabeth Wingard, Christine Wingard Roberts, Rosalyn Wingard Roof, and one brother Elmer Eugene Wingard, Jr.
Mr. Wingard was a Marine Corp Veteran who served during the Korean conflict. He participated in the last South Carolina Veteran Honor Flight from Columbia to Washington, DC. He was a 1953 graduate of Clemson College with a BS degree in Animal Science and was retired from the USDA as a livestock inspector. He spent his retirement years on his farm in Lexington where he passed away on one of his seven tractors.
He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Wingard-Gay (Doug) of Rock Hill, SC and Kimberly Wingard Sumner of St. Simons Island, GA. He is also survived by his brother, Theodore Wingard of Lexington, 5 nephews, 6 nieces, 11 great-nephews, 9 great nieces, and numerous great-great-nephews and nieces.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1430 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
